Summer is the perfect time of year to enjoy the variety of activities available to you and your family in Charlotte. It’s also a great time for maintenance around the home that will help spruce up your home and prevent bigger issues down the road.
Check for Water Leaks
Leaking outdoor faucets and hoses waste water and add extra money to your water bill. Fix small, pinhole-sized leaks with electrical tape, but bigger cuts and tears may require buying a new hose.
Check for Energy Leaks
Speaking of leaks, make your home more energy-efficient by checking windows and doors for leaks that let air through. You can add weather-stripping to doors – or replace old weather-stripping that has become brittle with new ian ashe – and be sure to check window caulking for cracks and leaks.
Check Your A/C
We all know the aggravation of selecting the right air conditioning system for your home and it not working properly during hot summer days. Clean the filter and schedule an inspection of your central air system. For window units, clean the filters and remove any outside debris. Also, clean the blades of your ceiling fan with a damp cloth or duster.
Keeping large appliances such as your refrigerator, dishwasher, and washer and dryer running smoothly is always important. Clogged refrigerator coils force your refrigerator to work harder, raising your energy bill in the process. Make sure that your dishwasher doesn’t have clogs or leaks, and run a cycle of vinegar to deodorize it. Check your washing machine and dryer hoses for cracks or leaks, and be sure to clean your dryer hose and vent at least once a year.
Improve Your “Curb Appeal”
You can make your home worthy of a second glance in many ways. Start by pruning shrubs and perennials, while raking up debris. Adding mulch to your plant beds not only looks good, but helps your plants retain moisture during warmer months. Cleaning your front porch is another way to make your home more inviting; sweep and wash the front door and porch, replace burned-out light bulbs, and polish any hardware such as doorknobs and door knockers.
Summer is a great time to clean windows that have become smudged and/or dirty over time. Use a bucket of warm, soapy water and a squeegee for best results.
